

John Gilbert Miranda, age 70, passed away on June 20, 2026. A resident of Yuma, Arizona, John will be remembered with deep respect and enduring affection by all who knew him. Born on September 8, 1955, in San Luis Rio Colorado, Sonora, Mexico, he carried forward a life shaped by steadfast devotion to family, a resilient spirit, and a quiet bravery that showed itself most clearly in the way he served others.
John was the son of Gilbert Miranda and Teresa Gill. He graduated from Kofa High School, and from those early years onward, he was known as a hard-working and thoughtful man—someone who met life with steady purpose and a selfless willingness to do what needed to be done.
John found his calling in Law Enforcement, pursuing his work with genuine passion and a strong sense of duty. He began in canine security, then served with the Yuma County Sheriff’s Office, and later became Chief of Police at the San Luis Police Department. He also served with the Somerton Police Department before retiring from the Cocopah Tribal Police Department. Across each role, he earned the trust of those around him through perseverance, courage, and a consistent commitment to the communities he served.
Beyond his career, John embraced life with an adventurous spirit and a full heart. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, and he took great joy in golf, softball, and cheering on the Dallas Cowboys—simple pleasures that reflected the warmth and loyalty so many cherished in him.
John was preceded in death by Father Gilbert Miranda, Mother Teresa Gill, Stepfather Joaquin (Sonny) Gill, and Brother Steven Miranda.
He is survived by Daughters Cynthia Derico and Patricia Miranda, 5 Grandchildren, 8 Great Grandchildren, Sister Angie Harmon and Brother Alex Gill, . He was beloved and deeply cherished, and his absence will be felt in the lives of those who relied on his strength, valued his care, and loved him for the steady presence he was.
Services/Viewing will be held at Johnson Mortuary Chapel on Saturday, July 11th from 8:00 AM TO 12 PM. There will be a Rosary at 11:00 AM followed by graveside service at 12:00 PM.
