May 2, 1952 – June 9, 2025
John L. Sousan, age 73, passed away on June 9, 2025, in Yuma, Arizona.
John came into this world on May 2, 1952, in Wichita, Kansas, the son of Christine Lillie Cherry and Raymond Haleem Sousan.
John served his country with honor in Vietnam before dedicating his life to a wide range of passions and professions. He trained at Le Cordon Bleu in Paris, France, becoming a master executive chef—a career that reflected his discipline, creativity, and deep appreciation for craft. He later earned a 200-ton Master Mariner license and spent years chartering sailing trips through the Caribbean, living out his love for the sea and adventure. His professional life eventually brought him to the RV industry, where his salesmanship and leadership were widely respected and culminated in retirement as a general manager.
John was a man of steady strength and a lively spirit. His humor was sharp and intuitive—he always seemed to know just when to lighten the mood or draw out a smile. He had a natural ability to read people, knowing when to share a story, offer a well-placed joke, or simply listen. It was a quiet gift that made him easy to connect with and quick to earn others’ respect. He made friends wherever he went and valued good company. He had a lifelong love of classic cars and sailboats and could often be found building, fixing, or tinkering—driven by a belief in craftsmanship and self-reliance.
His advice felt less like instruction and more like compass points—simple truths that reflected a life well lived, such as: “You can’t control the wind, but you can adjust your sails,” and “The only constant in life is change—and your ability to adapt to those changes gives you your quality of life.”
He is survived by his daughter, Xanthe Elise Bullard, who walked beside him through the last decade of his life. Their bond was unbreakable—built on love and loyalty, an unspoken vow to protect and care, no matter the cost.
He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. A private memorial will be held at a later date.
