Joe Alvarez, a beloved husband, father and grandfather, passed away April 14, 2019 after reaching the age of 95. After months of failing health, he died peacefully within his home in San Luis, Arizona with his beloved wife of 74 years Ofelia Alvarez and family by his side.
Joe was born on August 7, 1923 in Riverside, CA to Jose Alvarez Malfabon and Luz Alvarez. At a young age, Joe became a provider and father-figure within his family. He began working in a veterinary clinic to help make ends meet. Faced with the hardships of the Great Depression, he became an agriculture laborer, working endlessly to support and create a life for his family.
In 1944, he married the love of his life, Ofelia Alvarez. They live together almost inseparable for over 74 years. Together they raised their children; and with time their family vastly expanded into the large umbrella it is now. Joe is known as a “family-man” who lived and built his life for his family. He led by example and always had a place in his heart for each and every one of them.
Joe was a man of faith, born into Catholicism, practicing and living by his faith daily. He served the Church as a Eucharistic minister for many years, attended mass daily and helped those who could not attend receive Communion. He was a prestigious exemplar for the Catholic Church.
He was a strong patriarch of his family, a good father who always took care of his children, a loving grandfather and “great-grand” father, who did the best he could to teach and instill goodness within them. He lived a long and beautiful life in which he touched and positively influenced many around him, making his existence and presence an unforgettable one. He is loved and will be deeply missed by many.
He is preceded in death by his parents Jose and Luz, his brother Gilberto and son in law Juan Robledo.
He is survived by his wife Ofelia Alvarez, and his children: Alejandro (Yolanda), Guadalupe (Martha), Virginia Casillas (Baltazar), Jose Ricardo (Luz), Josefina, Ruben (Rosa), Ana Robledo (Eduardo), Veronica (Ramon), Carlos (Angela), Alfonso. His family is vast consisting of 39 grandchildren, 124 great great-grandchildren and 30 great-great grandchildren.
