Just ran across this obituary. I hated to read that Joe passed away. I worked for Joe back the mid-late 90s at Marine Air Federal CU. He was one of my favorite people & I truly enjoyed working with him. Rest in peace Sgt Major!

I served with Joe at the 12th Marine Corps District in San Francisco in the late sixties. He was a great Marine and good friend. I learned a lot from Joe. I happened to be going through a box of old pictures and found a picture of Joe and I playing ping pong (I believe it was for the Headquarters championship, which we won) and decided to do a google search and was saddened to find his obituary. But glad to see his beautiful family. I am sure he was a proud Father. I have thought of Joe and Rosemary many times in the last 45 years and I always smile with my memories.

There was never any doubt in my mind or heart that my dad loved me. He may have been a quiet man but I always knew how he felt. When he smiled it was like the sun shining. I miss him so much but I know he is with god looking down on all of us, some days shaking his head :-).

To the Joseph E. Fitzgerald family, our love, thoughts and prayers are with you. You have been a great source of joy for us, and that came from the tremendous leadership of your dad/husband. It was obvious to all how much he loved you kids, by the way he quietly disciplined you, joyfully enjoyed you and consistently supported your efforts. And clearly, he was devoted to you Rosemary, as you were his life, you completed & made him whole. These treasures remain in & with you always, in that these character qualities of his, taken to heart, continue to grow in each of you for your families and friends. May the love of our Lord surround you.
