Myrtle Mae Cohea

Myrtle was a natural born nurturer with a servant's heart, always caring for her younger siblings and later dedicating herself to her roles as a wife, mother, grandmother, and GG. She found joy in creating special birthday and wedding cakes for her loved ones, and her homemade chicken enchiladas were always a hit. Myrtle had a passion for interior design, dancing, and music, particularly when her father played the accordion and guitar.

In her professional life, Myrtle dedicated 27 years to Sears in Yuma, Arizona, working in sales of furniture, carpet, window coverings, and appliances. After retiring, she continued her career at the Shelly D Pensky Agency of Farmers Insurance. She also worked at her son Sam's restaurant, The Chinese Buffalo in Holtville, CA.

Outside of her work and family life, Myrtle found great pleasure in her hobbies, particularly cooking and entertaining friends and family. Baking cakes and desserts brought her immense joy especially for their special occasions.

Myrtle worshiped at Christ Lutheran Church and found solace and community there.

Myrtle is survived by her sons; Joseph Bekish of Yuma, Arizona, and Matthew Cohea and Christine of Phoenix, Arizona; her daughters, Shelly Pensky and Perry, Sherry Gardner and Mike, and Melissa Maynard and Mike. She will also be fondly remembered by her grandchildren; Natasha, Nikki, Staisha, Ramey, Chris, and Courtney, and her sister, Mary Huddleston.

Myrtle was preceded in death by her parents; Preston and Margie McBride, her 1st husband; Sam Bekish, her siblings; John, Wally, Bob, Jan, Dee, and Barbara, her husband of 42 years; Wayne Cohea, her son; Sam Bekish, and her grandson; JT Cohea.

Services for Myrtle will be as follows. A viewing will take place on January 26, 2024, at Johnson Mortuary at 1415 S 1st Street Yuma, AZ from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm, followed by a Celebration of Life at Christ Lutheran Church on January 27, 2024 at 11:00 am.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Christ Lutheran Church or Southwest Hospice of Yuma.
