Phillip Robert Barksdale

Phillip Robert Barksdale, 91 years young, passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by his family on July 9th 2018.Phil was born March 6, 1927 in Bowie, Arizona to Elton and Veta Mae Barksdale. He proudly and bravely served his country in the Navy (WWII), Army (Korean War) and the Army Reserves.Phil was an Engineer Technician at the Yuma Proving Ground for 38 years. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion Post 19 and the U.S Golf Association. He was an avid golfer, hunter, fisherman and loved camping with his family. He was also an active volunteer for the local 4-H and F.F.A.He enjoyed most sports but was a great fan of his Diamondbacks and Cardinals.Phil was preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers (Buddy, George, Jimmy), 3 sisters (Jan, Dorothy, Bonnie), and his son Barry.Phil is survived by his wife of 68 years Nola, daughter Shelly, son Greg (Cindy), Daughter-In-Law Nellie, Grandchildren:Brant (Jodi), Brian (Jacci), Brianne (Jeff), Madison, Cameron and Hayden. Great Grandchildren: Austin, Kylie, Brenna, Jase, Emma, Aubrey and a long list of extended family.He will be remembered as our loving Pepa, a wonderful storyteller, the patriarch of his family and the voice of reason for all whom had the privilege to know him. Funeral services will be held at Johnson's Mortuary and Desert Lawn Cemetery at 9:00 a.m. Friday July 20, 2018. A Celebration of Life will follow the services at the American Legion Post 19.

Donations in Phil's name may be sent to the Hospice of Yuma or the American Legion Post 19.

Mr. Barksdale was one of the good ones, the very best in many ways. I will remember his stories, his smile, and his ever present encouragement. God speed, sir!
