Renee “Nay” Alice Jones, a Cocopah Indian Tribal member, age 59, of Somerton, AZ passed away Monday, March 1, 2021 in Yuma, AZ. She was born at The Fort Yuma Indian Hospital in Winterhaven, CA. She was a graduate of Kofa High School. A former classmate would define Renee as the smartest student in the classroom. She also attended AWC and NAU, receiving her CNA Certification. Renee worked for the Cocopah Tribal Maintenance Health Program for 32 years. She was an active member of The Cocopah Church of Nazarene. At the church, she was an active member of the Women's Ministry. For her Community, Renee took a role and a place as a faithful member of the Cocopah Tribes Election Committee for over 30 years. Renee's talents were many. She was an extremely accomplished and beloved partner, dedicated stepmother and grandmother, devoted sister, aunt, friend, and community volunteer. She found joy in helping others and always did it with a smile.
Renee is preceded in death by her mother and father, Fern Jim and Maxie Jones. Raised and cared for by George and Maude Phillips, brothers Antonio Phillips Sr., and Vernal Jones, and sister, Penny Jones, Dejazu A. Jones, great nephews Julio K. Rodriguez III, Chaysen H. Nash, Elias D. Gomez.
She is survived by partner Marlowe Barley Sr.; stepchildren, Marlen Sr., Mario, Marcus, Marlene, Marlowe Jr., Maria, Markia, Markita, Marcie, and Marco Barley; and 43 grandchildren in total. She leaves behind her brothers, Reuben Jones, Larry Phillips and Desmond Jim; sisters, Mary Tiger and Fern Jim; nieces, nephews, and many family members, for who she deeply cared for and they to her. She enjoyed the friendship of many.
Pallbearers will be Joseph, Marlon, Mario, Markus Barley, Brandon and Ryan Marks, and Brandon Phillips.
Honorary Pallbearers will include Marlowe Barley Sr., Reuben Jones, Larry Phillips, Desmond Jim, Brett Tiger, Bruce Antone, Harold Coyote, Gordon Coyote Jr., Antonio Phillips Jr., Allan and Alex Phillips, Nash Stephens, and Loren Thomas.
