Richard was a man of many achievements and talents. He was employed by the Bureau of Reclamation, then by the Tanner Companies, and later worked alongside his family at Arviso Engineering/Geotechnical Testing Services.
In the early 1960s, Richard began exploring martial arts. Along with his brother Robert, he founded Arviso’s Karate School. He became a Senior Grand Master, earning his 10th-degree Black Belt in Okinawan-Kempo.
Richard also had a passion for coaching. He coached football and basketball for IC School, Pop Warner football, and soccer teams for YYSA and Yuma United Soccer Association.
A self-taught musician, Richard performed with “Los Chicanos,” "Tequila Express,” and "Family Affair," the band he led with his children, nieces, nephews, and brothers.
Richard is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Rosemary (Ramos), and his children: Theresa Imlay (Brian), Richard Jr. (Kristy), Courtney (Lori), and Jason (Eloisa).
Richard was a proud grandfather to nine loving grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, with one on the way.
Richard was preceded in death by his mother, Amelia (Lola) Arviso; father, Pouseno Chavez Arviso; brother, John Arviso; sisters, Tonie (Chata) Munoz and Cheryl Ann Nunez; mother-in-law, Carmen Ramos; father-in-law, Antonio Ramos; and brother-in-law, Thomas (Tony) Ramos.
Services will be held on February 7th at Immaculate Conception Church, with a rosary at 10:30 AM and a funeral Mass to follow at 11:00 AM. Burial services will take place at Desert Lawn Memorial.
