Ronal Ager Smith

February 17, 1940 - August 9, 2026

Ronal Ager Smith, born February 17, 1940 in Yuma, Arizona to Ager Smith and Fredonia Estes Merriman Smith. He passed away peacefully on August 9, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of service, curiosity, hard work, and above all, love.

Ronal graduated from Yuma High School in 1958 and was a proud veteran of the United States Air Force. He left the Air Force in 1964 and dedicated 45 years to the Railroad. Throughout his life, he approached his work and his responsibilities with determination, pride, and a strong sense of purpose.

A lifelong tinkerer and learner, Ronal was always curious. He loved figuring out how things worked, taking things apart, putting them back together, and learning something new along the way. His hands were often busy, and his mind was always exploring.

Most of all, Ronal loved his family and friends passionately. The people he cared about were at the heart of his life. He gave his love freely and deeply, and those who knew him will remember his loyalty, his generosity, his curiosity, and the special way he made people feel cared for.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Alice Bertha Trader Smith; his three children, Craig Coe Smith, Patricia Ann Smith McClintock, and Laura Lee Smith Miles, and his sister, Betty Jean Smith. He was blessed with eight grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.

He was preceded by his sister, Willas Ann Smith in 2018, and his oldest grandson Jacob Patrick McClintock in 2023.

Ronal's life was one of service, learning, friendship, and love. His absence will be deeply felt by all who knew and loved him, but his memory will live on in the stories shared, the lessons he taught, the things he built and repaired, and in the hearts of his family and friends. He will be greatly missed and forever loved.
