Shirley Jean Waldrip, 81, passed away Sunday, October 7, 2012. She was born January 21, 1931, in Portland, Oregon. Shirley was a loving homemaker and former owner of Desert Gardens Nursery. She was an active member of the Yuma Mesa Homemakers. She moved to Tulelake, CA, in 1937, and graduated Tulelake High School in 1948. She married Thomas E. Waldrip in January of 1949 and moved to Yuma in 1957, where they raised their three sons, Thomas Jr., Richard W., and Ronald Waldrip. She opened and ran Desert Garden Nursery until she became unable to operate it. Along with gardening, she loved to search out antiques. Shirley is survived by her husband, Thomas E. Waldrip Sr.; sons, Ronald K. Waldrip, and Richard W. (Melissa) Waldrip; sister, Florence (Bill) Beller. She was preceded in death by her son, Thomas E. Waldrip Jr. Visitation will be held at Johnson Mortuary Thursday, October 11, 2012, from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. A funeral service will be held at Johnson Chapel, Friday, October 12, 2012, at 10:00 A.M. Her final resting place will be at Desert Lawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers please donate to Hospice of Yuma. Pallbearers will be Javier Herrera, Jeff Beller, Rick Waldrip, Bill Beller, Ron Waldrip, and Diane Jung. Honorary pallbearers will be Justo Avalos, Ted Fish, Bill
Waldrip, Trish Slezak, Maryann Thompson, and Jim Hill.
