While I didn’t have the pleasure of knowing Bill for a long time, I’m very glad to have known him for the time God willed for our paths to intersect. I know there were many times he would have loved to be in fellowship with his church family at Calvary, but ill health often prevented it. That made the times when he COULD come extra special. It always humored me (and probably no one else) to acknowledge his presence on those Sundays by welcoming “the famous basketball player, Bill Russell!” At least he was old enough to appreciate the reference, and polite enough to laugh every time I said it, if for no other reason than the fact that he, like me, was about as different in stature and basketball talent from THAT Bill Russell as he could possibly be!

He loved to sing and play guitar, and I had opportunity to enjoy his music in church settings as well as informally. He was kind enough to let me play his very valuable Martin D-28 guitar—at least for a couple of songs! He and I shared a fondness for music from the same era, Christian and otherwise.

I actually was acquainted with his son Wayne for a considerable length of time before I ever met Bill. Wayne and I shared a few adventures together, memories which are very precious to me. So I want to offer Wayne, as well as the rest of Bill’s family, my condolences on the loss of your loved one, but also rejoice with you that his pain and suffering are over as he stands completely whole in the presence of our most gracious Heavenly Father. Grace, peace, and love to you all, in Christ’s name I pray.

Bill was, without a doubt, one of the kindest men ever to have graced the face of this planet. He was generous in spirit and in deed, he was loving and gracious. He was a father-figure to many of his children's friends, myself included, and his passing will represent a sincere loss for many. Whatever lies beyond this world, Bill deserves the very best of it. My sincerest condolences to Bill, Wayne, Wesley, and Michele and their families. <3

Bill was a wonderful and loving man. He meant a lot to me and I am so heartbroken that his life was taken away so suddenly, but I will cherish all the beautiful memories that we shared and he will remain in my heart forever. And, yes, he loved The Beatles. We were fortunate to have gone to Las Vegas to see "LOVE", a homage legacy of their music performed by Cirque du Soleil. May you rest in peace in the House of our Lord Bill. Love you, Yolie

My momories are of a brother who I loved to sing Beatle songs with.Bill on lead and me on harmony.we both loved music. All of our family loved to sing and do 3 part harmonies.we grew up poor, but found a richness in our selves and a sense of humor.Bill loved to make you laugh and he loved to laugh with you, till you both would have tears coming down your face I have and always will miss that about my brother.Billy and I didn't see eye to eye on a lot of things and our relationship would mostly be distent but I always loved him,and I hope he knew that.I will miss him and his laughter and our singing was a shorter ride that I had with him and him with me .a choice we both made but maybe shouldn't have.there are a lot of memories I have but will not share.but I will cherish the good ones till he and I will be together again.
