Marjory Dryden Van Houten passed away on January 18 after a long and full life. She was born on February 1, 1925 in Houston, grew up in the hill country town of Comfort, and graduated from Comfort High School. She received her BA from the University of Texas and attended graduate school at Baylor where she where she met the love of her life, George. George passed away in 2002.
She is survived by her children: David and his wife Carol of Plano, Cathi Lockard and her husband Lee of Austin, and Susan LeBas and her husband James of Austin. Her son, Paul, died in 1968.
Also surviving Marjory are her grandchildren: Tara Tevis and her husband Ryan, Brant Van Houten and his wife Ruth, and Blaine Van Houten; Allyson LeBas and her fiancé Jérémie Jarrard, and Meredith LeBas and her fiancé Mason Hopkins.
Her great-grandchildren are Reagan and Blake Tevis, and Henry, Mary, and Ruby Van Houten.
Marjory was a 60-year member of Austin Country Club where she was a life-time member of the Ladies Golf Association and enjoyed playing bridge and gin rummy with her friends. She was a volunteer at Brackenridge Hospital and a member of Tarrytown United Methodist Church.
Marjory was a wonderful cook and enjoyed hosting parties and family dinners. She loved Christmas, having a huge Santa Claus collection and always a beautiful Christmas tree.
She was blessed with wonderful neighbors in Davenport Ranch who were always there to help. Carmen and David Erthal were constant companions and Debbie Finke visited her faithfully for years.
The family would like to thank caregivers Deb Murray and Linda Shapiro who were great companions to Marjory, and Beverly Springer of the Stephens Ministry for providing faith and spiritual visits.
Graveside services will be Monday, January 25th at 2:00 pm at Austin Memorial Park.
