Dorothy Setsuko Takeno was born in Selma, California, on March 3, 1928. She passed away peacefully in Clovis, California, on Tuesday, January 12, 2021, at the age of 92. She lived in Selma for over 85 years.
In 1948, Dorothy married the love of her life, Ichio Takeno, and they began a long and wonderful life together. Her cherished hobbies included: traveling to various places around the world, gambling with her daughter Jeanne and her sisters-in-law at various casinos, bowling, and spending time with her family – especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Dorothy’s smile and kind demeanor will be deeply missed by her family and friends.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Ichio Takeno; her parents, Juhachi and Sueme Nishioka; her loving foster parents, Floyd and Stella Barr, who raised Dorothy when she was orphaned as a one-year-old; her sister, Wanda Smith and her husband Jack; her brother, Henry Nishioka and wife Tamaye; and her son-in-law, Paul Morita.
She is survived by her four daughters, Linda Morita, Jeanne Shimoda, Robin Carlson and her husband Brien, and Donna Kokka and her husband Randy; grandchildren Tiffany Trenhaile, her husband Shawn and their children Kylie and Kiera, Stephanie Kokka, Kasey Kokka, Chris Carlson, his wife Bridget and their children Ellyssa, Bryanna, Nicholas and Jackson, Jacob Carlson, his wife Erica and their children Johnie and Jessie; brother-in-law and sisters-in-law, Mas “Kent” Shimamoto and his wife Geri, and Gladys Shimamoto; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
The Takeno family would like to thank the nurses and staff that cared for Dorothy while she was at Heritage Crossing Care Center.
