Portland- Ruby A. (Bryant) Harris, 102, of Canco Road in Portland, formerly of Westbrook, passed away on January 21, 2021, in Portland. Born September 6, 1918 in Knox Maine the daughter of Birt and Nellie Bryant.
She was predeceased by her husband Winslow Thorndike Harris and daughter Marjorie Elaine Harris Holste. She is survived by 3 sons and one daughter, Richard and Nancy Lee Harris, William Albert and Nancy Elizabeth Harris and David and Vanda Jean Harris and daughter "Migs" Marlene Eaton and husband James Schmidt. Survived by 9 Grand children, 10 Great grandchildren and 14 Great,great grand children.
Ruby graduated from Maine General Hospital School of nursing in 1941 as a Registered Nurse. Ruby retired as a nurse in 1970 and within 10 years decided to help with with her son Williams business Harris Trucking until1997. She loved to travel and she and her husband went to Spain, and Mexica. Later she traveled with friends to Alaska, Africa, and Europe. She loved anything to do with the outdoors, walking, hunting, canoeing, birdwatching, gardening and genealogy and reading. She was interested in all of her children and grand children and always volunteered to give a helping hand and was interested in all aspects of their life. Ruby loved animals. You are welcome to donate to the SPCA or the animal refuge league in her memory. She was a one of a kind, beautiful, independent woman.
Burial will be in the spring at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Freedom, ME.
