Charles W. McKenzie, 78, went to his reward on Monday, January 18, 2021. Loving son of the late Austin and Anne McKenzie (nee Lewis) born in Jamaica to his missionary parents. Charles's studies began in his early years as is fitting since his parents were scholars; Austin went to Oxford and Anne to Wellesley. Charles was an avid reader of books that his father brought him from the Kingston Library. A fond memory that gave him comfort in the last few weeks were the times he spent at sunrise with his father on the upstairs veranda of their home in Jamaica, sipping hot chocolate (for Charles) and coffee (for Dad). In 1973 in the U.S. Navy, based at Great Lakes, IL, he taught mathematics. Upon Leaving the Navy, he moved to Chicago where he lived and worked as an actuary. Through a shared love of tennis, he met his first wife Margaret (deceased 2010). They married and he moved to her Wilmette home. He is survived by and was a caring, kind and beloved husband to Lynn, nee Shafer; nee Domenick. Charles did not have children of his own; however, he loved and he was cherished by his second wife's family: son, Douglas William Domenick (Eli Johnson), daughter, Gina Lynn Domenick Thompson (Derek), his adoring grandchildren, Logan Thompson, Inga Lynn Domenick, and Ellis Arthur Domenick. A memorial service will be held at Christ Church, Winnetka IL when it is safe to gather again. Memorial donations may be made to the Prostate Cancer Foundation, 1250 Fourth St, Santa Monica, CA 90401 in memory of Charles W. McKenzie, www.pcf.org.
