Lawrence "Larry" Luna was called to Heaven suddenly on January 19, 2021 at age 56, with his loving family present. Larry was born May 12, 1964 in East Orange, New Jersey to parents Jack and Josefa Luna. Larry was joined a year later by brother, Jack Luna. The family moved to Las Vegas in 1968.
Larry went to Lincoln Elementary School, Jim Bridger Junior High, and Eldorado High School (Class of 1982). Larry graduated from UNR in 1986 with a degree in Electrical Engineering (Go Pack!). He started his career at Nevada Power/NV Energy as an Electrical Engineer and worked through various departments throughout his 34+ year career, with his final position Director of Delivery Optimization.
Larry married the love of his life in 1992, Tammy (nee Kendall, known as Mrs. Luna to her CCSD students). Larry and Tammy were blessed with three beautiful children, Jacob, Madison and Tayler. Larry was an active and proud Swim Dad for the BCH Heatwave Swim Team (Jacob and Tayler), Harvard Crimson (Jacob) and Dance Dad for the Fern Adair Dance Academy (Madison). All three kids excelled in school and life and Larry was the proudest dad you could ever meet.
Larry had a wide circle of friends that date back to his high school days and we are so grateful for their support during this sad time. Larry was a Lector at St. Thomas More and the family was active at both St. Thomas More and St. Francis Catholic Churches. Larry was an avid sports fan -Yankees, Knights, UNR Wolfpack, UNLV Rebel basketball, Harvard Crimson, Jets and (now) Raiders and basically every other sport. He celebrated his most recent fantasy football victory with a happy dance for his family at their new home in Inspirada.
Larry is survived by his loving wife Tammy and their three children, Jacob, Madison and Tayler; his parents Jack Sr. and Josefa; brother Jack Jr. (Karen); mother-in-law Margaret Kendall; and many in-laws, cousins, nieces and nephews. Welcoming Larry in Heaven is Papa Ed Kendall.
All who knew him will miss Larry dearly.
Due to the pandemic, the services will be private. We hope to have a larger Celebration of Life gathering in the future.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Heart Association, Special Olympics, or any charity of their choice.
