Lee was born in Rougemont, North Carolina to Lee and Elizabeth Chambers. He grew up in Roxboro, North Carolina on a tobacco farm with two older sisters and one younger brother. He attended Roxboro High School and then enlisted into the U.S. Navy. He served during the Korean War on the USS Gantner and the USS Helena. Stationed in San Diego he found the love of his life, Donna and was married in 1949. Within three and a half years they had a son, Michael.
The family loved to bowl, fish, attend NASCAR races and was San Diego Charger season ticket holders for 54 years. Lee and Donna were married for 71 years and loved spending time with their family but Lee’s greatest joys were his grand and great-grandchildren.
In addition to Donna, Michael and daughter in-law Diana, Lee is survived by his grandson Johnny and wife Lyndsey and granddaughter Breanna and husband Chris Bozir; great-grandchildren Remington and Rhone Chambers and Sierra and Amelia Bozir. He was preceded in passing by his siblings Mae Love Currin, Gladys White and Burley Chambers.
The Memorial Service will be Feb. 22, 2021 held at Dignity/El Cajon Mortuary, 684 S Mollison Ave, El Cajon, Ca. 92020 (cross street E Washington Ave) at 12:30pm. Feel free to wear western/plaid attire. Those who are planning to attend the Military honors at the Miramar National Cemetery, will be held at 2:30pm (must be there at 2:00pm sharp) at 5795 Nobel Dr., San Diego, Ca. 92122.
