Cora Louise Evans, age 84, passed away quietly on Wednesday, January 27th following a brief illness. Cora was born in Ann Arbor, Michigan and graduated from Ann Arbor High School. Her parents were Lydia Belle (Cromwell) and Johnny Lee Morton, and she shared her childhood with three brothers, Richard L., John C., and Raymond H. Morton, all of whom are deceased.
She married Robert L. Evans on December 31, 1954, and the couple lived in El Paso, Texas while Robert was in the Air Force. After Robert finished his service, the couple moved back to Ann Arbor and Cora studied nursing at the University of Michigan, becoming an LPN. She worked at U of M Hospital, St. Joseph Hospital in Ypsilanti and later at the Federal Correction Facility in Milan. Nursing was always a great love of Cora’s and she stayed active in professional groups long after she retired.
Cora and Robert had four children, Myron (Cynthia) Evans, Mark (Lynne) Evans, Lydia (Louis) Goodlow, and Michael (April) Evans. Robert passed away in 2004 and Michael died unexpectedly in 2005. In addition to three of her children, Cora is survived by eleven grandchildren and several great grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Her family and friends will miss her kind, gentle spirit and infectious laugh. A smile always greeted everyone she loved.
Cora was a lifelong member of Second Baptist Church of Ann Arbor, with four generations of her family attending the church for close to 100 years. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the church. A private funeral service will be held at Muehlig Funeral Chapel and Cora will be laid to rest with her family members at United Memorial Cemetery.
