Karen Sue Backus, born with Cerebral Palsy on 02/18/1943, to Celia Craig Backus and Floyd Backus. Karen was not expected to live an independent life, nor to live past an adolescents age. Against the odds, she lived a full life. She graduated from Everett high school, married Noel Leroy Sova, raised two children, Floyd Leroy Sova, now deceased, and Archie D Sova, both who became great men and fathers. When the time came she even helped raise her grandchildren, Cassandra Sova Buck, Kelsey Sova Guerrero, Anna Lynn Marie Quick, and Selina Nevills.
Karen spent her life giving to others. She was a member of the Jane Thurston Handicap's Group for many years; providing transportation to events like cross country skiing, concerts, bowl-a-thons, bingo, baseball games, and fundraisers like bake sales and car washes. All of which she actively participated in and all the while proving aid and assistance to the seeing and mobile impaired.
Aside from her eventful life, Karen most enjoyed spending time with her family, whether it be a regular day or on occasion. She enjoyed watching movies, playing games, and singing karaoke at home or at Sir Pizza Grand Café. She enjoyed her mobility and being on the go. She often went on long bike rides on Lansing's River Trail, even when it meant putting her grandchildren in the basket of her three wheeler bicycle.
Karen was truly a remarkable woman and really made the most of her life by showing and giving the light and love of God to everyone she encountered.
