George William Carver, 82, of Odessa, Texas, passed away on February 6, 2021. He was born in Ashdown, Arkansas, on November 21, 1938, to George Hayes Carver and Tressie Griffen Carver. George worked as a salesman for Standard Sales for several years; however, when he met Sara Lou Watts, his life path changed and became one that many people will remember him by. On April 1, 1967, he joined with the Watts’ family business and purchased Watts Burger #1 on South Grant in Odessa, Texas, from Sara’s mother. He would go on to spend the next four decades working the grill during lunch runs and then as he grew older, relocating to a barstool where he would answer the phone to take call-in orders. George was the proud father of two sons, Don and Kyle. He loved taking them on fishing trips and spending time at the lake. Although he could not swim, he would spend hours driving the boat pulling the boys on skis. George could often be found behind the wheel of his motor home. He loved traveling and took his grandchildren on several road trips. He loved seeing new places and meeting new people. George loved to speak his opinion and he shared it boldly. He never hesitated to tell you that your opinion was wrong. There was also a side of George that was gentle and caring. George loved Sara with all of his heart. He often brought her flowers, helped her fix her hair when her shoulder was hurt, and even signed a card, “Thanks for the first 49 years. I love you.” After 60 years together, Sara passed away in January and George would not be left behind. Twenty days after her passing, George took his last breath. His love for her was a testament to their life story. George was preceded in death by his parents, his sister MaryAnn, his brother, Jim Bob, and his wife, Sara. He is survived by his sister, Margie McDowell, of Texarkana, Arkansas; son, Don and wife, Cindy of Amarillo, Texas; son, Kyle and wife, Sharon of Odessa, Texas; grandchildren, Broc Ball and wife, Amanda, Savannah Carver, Kyleigh York and husband, Cody, and Kolton Carver and wife, Ashley; as well as 4 great-granddaughters, Alexa, Hadison, Bellamy, and Bexleigh, and one great-grandson, Wrangler James. Services are scheduled for Wednesday, February 10th, at 1:00 PM at Hubbard- Kelly Funeral Home, 601 N. Alleghaney, in Odessa.
