Born July 20, 1948 in Pittsburgh, PA, she was a daughter of the late James and Hattie Harris Young.
Janet attended Gilmary Catholic School for Girls in Coraopolis, PA. She received an academic scholarship and attended Carlow College in Pittsburgh, PA for two years. She then relocated to San Diego, CA, completed her undergraduate studies, and received a Master of Business Administration at National University. Janet worked at Teledyne Ryan Aeronautical as a Project Manager specializing in budget analysis for several years. She left Corporate America to become a homemaker, and discovered her passion of caring for people. While her children were in middle and high school, she began working in the healthcare industry and retired as a nursing assistant.
Survivors include her three daughters and son-in-law, Tracy Rivers and her husband, Shlain Rivers, Jamie Mayes and Renate' Mayes; her grandchildren, Jordan Mayes, Autumn Daniels, Eden Rivers, twins, Dylan Simcox and Kayla Simcox and Natalie Mayes; three brothers Terry Young, David Young and Carl Young; a sister, Shirley Smith; the father of her two daughters, Gregory Mayes; her god parents, Victor (Mickey) and Mildred (Mitzi) Taylor of Pittsburgh, PA along with a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
She was predeceased by three brothers, her twin, Jimmy Young, Larry Young and Alan Young.
Janet enjoyed the simple pleasures of life, loved to dance, and comically, always said what everyone was thinking. In 2016, Janet was baptized and dedicated her life to Jehovah God. She was an active member at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Charlotte, North Carolina.
