Helen Virginia Lewis Plachta, 89, of Manchester, passed away on February 6, 2021. She was born in Jamaica, Queens, Long Island, New York to the late Eleanor Didrikson Lewis and Roy Charles Lewis on May 30, 1931. She was raised in East Hartford, CT, and graduated from East Hartford High School, class of 1949. After graduating she worked for 43 years as an executive secretary at Aetna Insurance Company in Hartford, CT before retiring.
During her life, she always put her family first, assuming the responsibility of not only a “big” sister but caregiver for her younger sister Marilyn Lewis until her sister’s death.
To those she leaves behind, may they smile as they remember times spent together, traveling, eating, laughing, and enjoying life together. Remember life, is not where you go, it’s whom you go with, all of us were special to her AND her to us.
Helen leaves behind her cousin Jacqueline Foster, of Lakeway, TX and her children Lynne Ann Davis and Scott Biesaart; and close friend Shirley Szkirka and her family. Helen and her family would especially like to offer their heartfelt thanks to all the people who gave her such excellent care through the years that allowed her to experience such a good quality of life while she was with us.
A Committal Service will be held on Wednesday, February 24, 2021 at 1:00 PM in Silver Lane Cemetery, East Hartford. Newkirk & Whitney, 318 Burnside Ave, East Hartford, CT is entrusted with arrangements. For an online memorial, please visit www.NewkirkAndWhitney.com.
