Georgette was born in Bogota, Colombia to Aura Florez and Charles Brasseur on December 6, 1931. She attended San Façon School for Girls. After finishing school, she traveled and studied in Europe before taking a position with the Colombian Embassy in Washington D.C., where she met and married the love of her life, Virgilio Escutia of Laredo, Texas.
She was a supportive wife, helping her husband through graduate school at University of Michigan and a doctoral program at the University of North Carolina, and a thirty-year career in foreign medical service with the World Health Organization. Their assignments took them to Bogota and Cali, Colombia; Buenos Aires, Argentina; Santiago, Chile; Mexico City; back to Washington, D.C., and finally they retired in Austin, to be near their children.
Georgette dedicated her life to her family, her children, and friends whom she loved. She enjoyed traveling, gardening, painting, sewing, and cooking. She was an energetic volunteer throughout her life, and most recently for the St. Vincent DePaul Society where she served for over twenty years and was recognized for her ministry to over 1000 families in need. In 2017, Georgette and Virgilio received the Diocese of Austin Lumen Gentium Award for their service at St. Louis Catholic Church.
Georgette is survived by her husband Virgilio Escutia, of Austin; daughters Francoise Luca and her husband Andy Rainosek of Austin, Kathy Escutia of Austin, Jeannette Escutia and husband Lynn Fast of Allen, Texas; and her sons and their wives, Virgil and Cheryl Escutia of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Charles and Christina Escutia of Austin; 15 grandchildren and their spouses; two great granddaughters; and sisters Jeannette Faccini and Claudia Brasseur of Colombia; and sister-in-law Margaret Brasseur of Ianham, Maryland.
She was preceded in death by her parents Aura and Carlos Brasseur, brother Francisco Brasseur, and sister Marcel Ortiz.
