Virginia was the second child born to Willard and Katherine Kellis In Scotts Mills, Oregon. Her maternal grandmother, Myra Sloan, served as midwife. Virginia attended grade school in a one room school in Northern California and High School at Yreka, California.
Virginia was proud to say that she put herself through College by working to save money for a year of college tuition and expenses, followed by a year of classroom study, repeating this until she graduated from 2 colleges, Chico State and Washington State with teaching credential from both colleges.
Virginia married Madison (Matt) Oliver on 12/23/1947 in Redding California. Matt passed away in August 2010.
She began her teaching career at a High School in Livermore, California and retired from her career as an instructor for the State of Hawaii Community College.
Virginia often talked about her memories of growing up living in Northern California on the shores of the Klamath River. Matt’s work took them to many areas of the South pacific. She also talked often of her experiences while living in the South Pacific. They settled in Hawaii until their retirement.
She is survived by a brother Derald and several nieces and nephews.
Virginia will be missed by her family and many friends.
