Born on August 7, 1920 in Westernport, MD, Lucille was the youngest daughter of Lebanese immigrants, Gabriel Nasser and Leah Raphael Nasser.
Lucille was a lifelong learner who began her studies in Westernport, MD. She graduated from St. Peter’s Catholic School in 1938, and went on to study nursing at the Sacred Heart School of Nursing in Cumberland, MD. Following her studies, Lucille joined the Navy Nurses Corp in 1944, serving in both the Second World War and the Korean War.
She married her beloved husband, Dr. John Emmett Moses in 1952. As a working mother, she continued her studies, earning a BS in Nursing from UNCC. She taught at North Mecklenburg High School and the UNCC School of Nursing. She obtained a Master’s in Guidance and Counseling and later, a Graduate Certificate in Gerontology from UNCC.
Lucille provided private counseling services for several years. In retirement, Lucille stayed actively involved at St. Gabriel’s Catholic Church, participating in the Women’s Club, the Health Ministry, and as a volunteer bringing communion to the hospitalized and homebound. She also served as a volunteer for Hospice. She enjoyed painting, pottery, and piano, and was active at the Marion Diehl Senior Center.
Lucille is survived by her husband, Dr. John Emmett Moses; her daughter, Gabrielle Moses-Markle and son-in-law, Ford Markle; son, Phil Moses and daughter-in-law, Elizabeth McMeekin; and grandchildren, Brianna, Jonathan and Leah Markle; and Rafael, Gabriel, and Jamila Moses.
A visitation will take place from 10:00 AM on Thursday, February 25, 2021 in the Narthex of St. Gabriel Catholic Church, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM. Interment will follow at Belmont Abbey. Masks and social distancing are required.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital; Hospice & Palliative Care-Charlotte Region; or the charity of your choice.
