Regina Rostkowski
With heartfelt sadness, we announce the passing of our beloved Matriarch, mother, wife, grandmother, sister, and mother-in-law, Regina (Sulewska) Rostkowski, age 77, of Newington, CT also known as Renia by many of her loved ones and “Nanna” to her grandchildren, passed away after nine years with Alzheimers on Tuesday, February 16, 2021 with her loving family by her side.
Born in Sulewo, Poland the oldest of five siblings with courage, bravery, and no hesitation she immigrated to the United States in 1966 by coming first to family in Bayonne, New Jersey and then eventually to family (Mordasiewicz family) in New Britain, CT. In 1966, she married Wieslaw (Wes) her constant companion and in later years, her steadfast caregiver. They were married for 55 years.
She lived in New Britain, CT for a few years before finally settling in Newington, CT. Being the oldest of five siblings she NEVER forgot her younger siblings, mom, and cousins who remained in Poland. With her big heart she extended herself to all siblings, mom, and cousins by helping them come to the United States. She worked for many years before retiring from the Stanley Works.
Family was everything to Renia, especially her two sons, daughter -in –law as well as her grandchildren and her greatest joy was spending quality time with family and friends. She loved to talk on the phone with her sisters and friends. She enjoyed taking care of artificial and natural plants. She was truly a Matriarch for her immediate and extended family. Renia was the type of woman that “took charge” – she was instrumental in gathering family members together, always provided advice, was fiercely loyal, protective, a true leader, and above all, mom provided a great VISION and guidance for her family. She was instrumental in the construction of two spectacular homes. Her presence and love will be missed.
She was passionate about carrying on Polish family traditions by cooking and baking. Dinner at times was Polish paczki that mom made with a single glass of milk. Renia had a sense of humor, was fearless, pursued her dreams and made them happen. She enjoyed going to the beach, cleaning her house(you can eat off the floor), and attending church. She was an unrivaled success story and a quintessential representation of the American dream. Renia was a tireless spirit, whose beautiful face, elegance, grace and a smile that never seemed to age. She was very proud of becoming a United States citizen on February 08, 1974. She always reminisced on how she obtained her citizenship in the United States of America.
Nothing was more important to her than her family and leaves behind a beautiful legacy of love and precious memories. In addition to her husband, she will be missed by her two sons which mom always referred to as her two eyes. George Rostkowski and his wife Marta, and John Wesley Rostkowski; and the treasures of her life grandchildren, Emily, and Matthew. She was predeceased by her oldest granddaughter princes Caroline. She was predeceased by her dad Antoni Sulewski, mom Marianna (Brzoska) Sulewski, her brother Tadeusz Sulewski, and her brother-in-law Zbigniew Piekarski. Renia is survived by her brother Ryszard Sulewski, sister Anna Piekarski, sister Irene Rudzki and her husband Arkadiusz. Renia had many relatives, nieces, and nephews too many to name who will miss her dearly. We would like to give a very SPECIAL THANK YOU to her primary care doctor Dr. Lucyana Kolakowska and her secretary Ms. Halina, Season’s Home Hospice, and Hartford Healthcare at Home Hospice.
