on February 15, 2021 at age 84. The youngest child of Sol and Celia (Wolf) Schwartzapfel, Carol was born and raised in New York City and Miami Beach.
Carol met Bernard Wagner while they were in high school, where they were drawn together by their
conspicuous academic excellence and their shared love of music. In the high school band, Carol played flute and Bernie played trumpet. They married in 1956, and raised three sons, with whom they shared their deep dedication to social justice, strong belief in the importance of education, and love of Jewish tradition They celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary on February 7.
Carol had several nurturing careers, first as a teacher, later as a nurse. She worked at Columbia-Presbyterian Hospital in New York City, first in oncology and later in medical surgery departments. Later, she went into private duty nursing, followed by a career in family counseling. She leaves a legacy of students, patients, and families who benefited from her caring, her insight, and her hard work.
She is remembered with love and respect by her extended family, including her husband, Bernie; her
two surviving sons, Jordan and Mark, and their wives and partners; her eight grandchildren, Samantha, Jack, Jacob, Rebekah, Isaac, Dina, Malkah, and Basya; and her two greatgrandchildren, Carol and Ian. Her dear youngest son, Daniel, died in 2018.
Carol and Bernie were members of Chabad of Poway in California, of Chabad of Dania Beach in Florida, and of the Adams Street Shul, in Newton Massachusetts. A Funeral Service will be held at Stanetsky Chapel followed by Burial at Baker Street Cemetery.
