Bert and her brother Wayne grew up in Sweet Home, OR with their
parents Wayne and Marsha Martinez. She attended Linn Benton
Community College, and transferred to Trinity Bible College in ND on a basketball scholarship.
After college Bert worked at Volkswagen for a short time, then pursued a short employment with Walsh Construction. She would later find her forever home with R&H Construction for 35 years. She loved her forever home. She retired last November 18th, 2020 as Senior Project Manager of the Financial Institutions Group.
A strong supporter of women in the trades, Bert recognized, trained, and mentored talent, pushing her people to be the best SHE knew they could be -- to be BETTER than THEY thought they could be.
Bert was a HUGGER! After she hugged you once you looked forward to the next time. Bert broke down walls and built bridges in their place.
She was blessed with two loving partnerships, with Katie and then
Diana. And she had the good fortune to mother two spectacular
daughters, Madison and Amiya. She had an amazing group of nephews and nieces that she will miss immensely, she will be keeping an eye on all of them. She loved everybody's kids and everybody's kids loved Bert.
Bert had a lot of animal friends, and she rescued many neglected
creatures from tough situations. She was a huge fan of the Portland Thorns and the Oakland Raiders, enjoyed golf, and loved to FISH.
Bert had so many strengths, talents, abilities -- and the greatest of these is LOVE. It was her superpower, she used that power for GOOD.
On February 16, 2021, with Wayne, Katie, Kim, and Pam beside her, Bert left this world. She went to Heaven -- and she’s saving seats for EVERYBODY.
