Mike, also known affectionately by many as Mickey was the devoted husband of Lorraine (Rain)Veccherelli for 18 years. He will be greatly missed by Lorraine, daughter Cortney of Southbury CT, son Brandon and wife Tina of Québec, Canada, bonus daughter Monique and husband Muin of Bronx, NY, bonus son Christopher and wife Daphna of Brooklyn, NY, and five amazing grandchildren Kaylyn, Kyle, Mounif, Nahla Rain, and Edie. Also sister Rose, nephew Richard, nieces Judy and Sheri Kae, father-in-law Bill, and his dear long time friend Bill Grady. There are so many more nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and friends who will miss Mike. He had a way of making those close to him feel safe.
As a young man Mike proudly served in the Army reserves. He then worked as a truck driver for Vallerie Transportation for 27 years and was an active member of Teamster Local 191. Upon retirement at the early age of 53 Mike started VG painting and wallpapering with his buddy Bill.
Mike loved horses and dogs, enjoyed skiing, and was an avid gardener and baker. He transformed the old farm house he and Lorraine lived in together, doing extensive renovations and improvements over the years. Mike traveled the world with his wife, visiting France, England, Ireland, Lebanon, Canada, Mexico and much of the US including Hawaii and St. Croix USVI.
Mike is preceded in death by his parents Margaret Matyas Veccherelli and Stephen Veccherelli, sister Shirley, brother Steve, mother-in-law Theresa and son-in-law Gene.
When Mike lost his brother Steve 42 years ago he called him "the last of the good guys". Its so like him in his humility to not realize we think of him as one of the "good guys" too.
Although Covid-19 was the immediate cause of Mike's death, he lived for over 11 years with a compromised immune system after receiving a bilateral lung transplant in 2009 at the Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland OH. He was part of a very privileged group of people indeed. He respected the gift of life that he was given and always cared for himself to honor that gift.
Family and friends will celebrate Mike's life in a memorial service at a safer time. In lieu of flowers, please consider a contribution in memory of Michael Veccherelli to lung transplant research at Cleveland Clinic.
