Harry Lynn Sample was born in Phoenix, Arizona on January 4, 1943. He grew up in Glendale, Arizona. He worked in his family business as a plumber at a very young age. In November 1963 he joined the Navy and was assigned to the Seabee’s Construction Battalion.
After meeting through mutual friends in Port Hueneme and only knowing each other for a few short weeks, he married Janis Sue Gustafson on April 23, 1964. They began their married life in Morocco, Africa where they lived for a couple of years. Lynn was then stationed in South Viet Nam and Janis returned to Kansas pregnant with their first child. Five weeks before their daughter was born, Lynn’s bunker was hit with mortar fire and he was awarded the Purple Heart. Lynn met his daughter for the first time when she was 2 months old.
After the service, Lynn, his wife and daughter moved to Napa, California. Lynn began a career in Pipefitting and was a 50+ year member of the Local 343 Plumber’s and Steamfitters union. Lynn’s second child was born in 1971 and both children were raised in Napa.
Lynn “retired” in 2000 and moved from Napa to Yosemite Lakes Park in Coarsegold, CA. During his retirement, he enjoyed being outside, fishing, being on his tractor, and spending time with the love of his life, Jan.
With Lynn you always knew how he felt and where you stood. He was stubborn, opinionated and loved Jesus. He left earth too soon and will be deeply missed.
Lynn is survived by his wife of 56 years, Jan; daughter Janis Lyn Cricket Koch (Bill); son Travis Bernarr Sample (Romona); Grandchild Jordan Harris (Alissa), Great-Grandchildren Eleonor & Jude; Grandchildren: Chase Sample, Ryan Koch, Hannah Sample, Rebekah Koch.
