Inez Howell Purvis was born the eleventh child of Jerry Theodore and Clatie Barrett Howell on July 20, 1940. She lived the majority of her life in Flora, MS until she was called home to be with our Lord on February 17, 2021.
Inez graduated from Flora High School in 1958 and worked a variety of different jobs before beginning her long term career at Allstate in 1968 where she would eventually retire in 2000. Her greatest joy in life was her family. Married June 28, 1958 at their preacher’s home in Clinton, MS, Inez and her late husband, Hugh, shared two children, five grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. All of whom were her “favorite” and never went unfed when in her presence.
As a lifetime member, Inez was very active at Franklin Baptist Church where she rarely missed a service or gathering. She led by example in her faith for both her family and friends, not only by the words of her mouth but by her actions. Inez loved sharing her passion for Christ and led many people to Him. She will be remembered by many for her charitable actions and true servant’s heart.
Inez is preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Hugh Wilford Purvis; her parents, Jerry Theodore and Clatie Barrett Howell; brothers, Sam Howell, Jessie Howell, and Lamar Howell; sisters, Syble Quinn, Vinie Dennis, Helen Hathorn, Eunice Wade, Mary Cumberland, and Betty Cumberland.
She is survived by her children, Timothy Purvis of Flora, MS and Lori Myers (Mitchell) of Flowood, MS; grandchildren, Rebecca Kellogg of Tomball, TX, Michael Purvis of Flora, MS, Allison Achord of Brandon, MS, Samuel Achord of Lakewood, WA, and Benjamin Achord of Flowood, MS; and sister, Burtie Peden (W.D.) of Flora, MS.
A visitation will be held at Parkway Funeral Home in Ridgeland, MS on Tuesday, February 23rd from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm. Close family and friends are invited to a small visitation at Franklin Baptist Church on Wednesday, February 24th from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm with a graveside service to follow. For the safety of all, please wear face masks and adhere to social distancing standards while inside.
