She was raised on the homestead and educated at Swanville Public School. She became a member of St. Peters Lutheran Church at the age of 14 and was confirmed and baptized there. After high school graduation, she moved to Minneapolis where she worked for Northrup King and Co. After two years, she moved to Colorado Springs, Colorado and worked for the Public Service Co. It was there she met her future husband James ("Jim") Bangert. They were married two years later at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Swanville, Minnesota on August 18, 1956. To this union were born two children, Steven and Julie.
After their marriage, they moved to Denver, Colorado. Jim was able to transfer with Retail Credit Corp. and Loretta worked jobs with Crusader Oil & Uranium Co., Girls Scouts of America and Family & Children's Services of Denver.
Loretta is survived by her children, Steven and Julie; her son-in-law, Stephen Butera; grandchildren, James and Dylan Butera; and her many nieces, nephews, extended family members and close friends. She was predeceased by her parents; husband James; brothers, George, Edwin, Verner and Arnold Swanson; and sisters, Minnie Strandberg, Ebba Barrett, Sigrid Kelley, Clara Stark and Alice Bloomquist.
Loretta loved and supported her husband, children and grandchildren. She was proud of them. She was a very open and practical person. She was fun and friendly with a ready smile on her face and always adhered to her commitments. She enjoyed cooking, writing letters, being in contact with people, bowling and helping others.
