Colleen has left a huge hole in my heart. For 40 years, I knew I could count on her for comfort, an ear to listen, and understanding  of life’s joys and sadness.  She could never be replaced.    I speak to her everyday and just hope we meet again.  I truly loved her.

Dear Jim,

Words cannot describe how shocked and saddened we were to hear of Colleen's passing.  We will always remember her smile and the soft easy way she had about her.  Whenever I spoke with her she made me feel peaceful and not rushed.  At our St. Patty's day celebrations everyone eagerly waited for you guys to come - we all looked forward to Colleen's delicious ruben sandwiches.

Dear Jim, I was so truly sorry to hear of the sudden passing of your beloved wife Colleen. I was in the Heart of LI chorus when I met
Coleen we eventually  went into different choruses.
Coleen and my sister Joan Ryan worked together on many projects
for the chorus' costumes. Coleen was such a hard worker and was 
loved by many. She was an asset to the chorus. Along with her 
lovely  voice and natural smile, she will be missed dearly by many.
I think you may have know my husband Bob Bruhl, he worked for
Grumman many years ago. My Bob passed 14yrs ago this month.
It is not easy, but time and prayer heals the soul. God Bless you Jim and all of you and Coleens' family.

I will miss you Colleen.  You were an incredibly industrious and hardworking chorus member. I don’t know if there was any chorus job you didn’t at some point do other than Peg’s job as Chorus Director.  You passed down the riser job to me and I worked with you and Joan on your committee making Chorus costumes. You last served as our treasurer right up to the end when God called you home. What a woman! 

You sang so beautifully and I was privileged to sing next to you on the risers many times. You were always nice to everyone. Colleen had a good sense of humor and a little lopsided grin and chuckle with laughing eyes that was all her own.  That’s how I will remember her.

The last time I talked to my sister we talked about gratitude. For the time we had with people we loved. For the things they left for us. For the memories we would cherish.  Colleen was caring and compassionate, hard-working and honest, loving and kind. Just being able to talk with her carried me through some difficult times. I pray that her spirit is singing.

To find words to express the feelings of my heart are difficult.  I cannot even begin to explain the void that I am feeling at this time.

Colleen and I were friends for almost twenty years.  For the past 7 or 8 years we had been room-mates at choral contest competitions in Philadelphia and Albany.

She was a wonderful room mate. She was neat and organized.  We secretly joked that we were the only two girls in the whole convention that actually made our hotel beds each morning better than the maids! 
 
She was so dedicated to her music too.  Many times Colleen would go back to our room to study her music.  I will always have the image in my head of watching her with her back leaning up against the headboard of her bed,  with knees raised up to her chest,  earphones to her ears and music papers in hand as she practiced her baritone part. She was truly devoted to her cause.
 
I will also treasure and miss all the long talks into the night.  The excitement of contest or the aftermath of it would keep us up at night. Though we tried to sleep, we could hear each other's rustling of sheets, the tossing and turning until finally one of us would break the silence of night and ask, "You can't sleep either?"

The greatest enjoyment was singing in a quartet with her. She made me feel so welcomed into our newly formed quartet, "At Last".  After only a few times of singing with "At Last",  one day at practice, Colleen put her palm on my back and rubbed her hand over it and I felt the warmth and knew that was her way of saying, "I love that you are part of us and I enjoy singing with you."

I will miss my friend.  She was a real "Class Act" and a "Great Lady".

In Memory of Colleen and For The Love of Her Family,

I wish solace to all that loved Colleen dearly and recognize that she loved so much her life, family and friends. 
I for one, loved her for her enthusiasm and the many laborious committee functions that she relentlessly pursued and aspired to bring her talents to Our Long Island Sound Chorus with costumes, dues and her quartets... It's hard to understand why people are taken from us.  I really do believe God only takes the best.
Over the last 30 years Colleen and I shared many happy moments together, sewing new costumes for the chorus, singing baritone , working on a retreat committee, or just hours on the phone.  In fact just last week we talked and laughed over another phone call.
You could always count on Colleen.  
I am so heartbroken at this terrible loss of a very dear and beautiful friend.  
She was an angel on earth and is now watching over us all.

Colleen we shared many memories together even though we were separated by many miles as we grew older. I remember you driving me to Tobay  beach when I was teenager enjoying the time together. After I moved West you visited Laura , Nick , Ben and I calling our neighborhood “ Wisteria Lane”. I remember you climbing into our attic to find a small leak in a pipe above the Kitchen while you were here. I am so glad my Family was able to travel though the years to visit you and Jim, go out on the boat and enjoy your beautiful home. Rest in Love sis !

Rest in Peace, Sweet Colleen.  Colleen was such a leader in our chorus, the Long Island Sound Chorus.  She  excelled as our treasurer.  She was a great teacher of choreography.  She had wonderful ideas while on the costume committee.  She loved performing and was a very accurate  baritone.  She was fun to be around with her infectious laugh.  Colleen was always on a committee, loving to serve.  Her sisters in harmony will forever remember our times with Colleen.  Our hearts are heavy.  Jimmy, we are thinking of you and sending you strength during this difficult time.

Colleen was my closest friend in the world.  She was there for me for  40 years.  We went so many places together.  She was my guardian angel, always checking that I was alright and listened to my ups and downs.  She saw me in my worst moments and my best.  
Through the marriage, and divorce.  Through my children and through the simplest of moments and the most complex, she would listen and laugh .   It is the moments in my kitchen over cookies out of the oven and cups of tea that we would share our stories.  Truly share a love and respect for each other.  She was my sister in every sense of the word,  the light that always shined and the voice at the end of my phone.    I was the luckiest woman in the world to have been able to call her my friend.    She will always be my angel.  How blessed I was to have those simple moments and someone to walk with.  She will always be in my heart, and never forgotten.

So many great memories of you and Colleen over the years.  Christmas parties, going out on the boat (and getting stuck in bay), dinners out, BERA trips, happy hours, so many.  Colleen never changed and was always smiling and having fun.  I'm including a picture of you both from the Halloween party at our house.  I believe Colleen joined me and Kathy whilst we were dancing on the coffee table! She will be sorely missed.
