She was employed by the Ben Pearson Company in Pine Bluff for most of her working life, and subsequently by Lake Catherine Footwear of Hot Springs. Following retirement, she spent many years serving in the Garland County Senior Companion Program, and enjoying life at the Levi Towers Senior Apartments.
Opal was preceded in death by her parents and by her husband, Joseph Dale Shanek, and her brothers: Carlee, Theodore, Herbert and Pete Sappington, and Jack McCurley. Also preceded in death by one sister, Hazel Sappington Linsner. She is survived by her sister-in-law, Dorothy (Dot) McCurley of Panama City, Florida, and stepson, Loren Shanek of Hot Springs, Arkansas. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
A special thanks to the staff of Sherwood Nursing and Rehab in Sherwood for taking care of Opal for the past 6 ½ years.
Due to concerns with the COVID-19 virus, no visitation or funeral services will be held. Interment will be 2pm Monday, March 01, 2021 at Crestview Memorial Gardens of Hot Springs in the main mausoleum.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a local animal rescue shelter or other charity of your choice.
