Son, brother, uncle, friend .... and one heck of a funny guy ... left us suddenly on Friday, February 19, 2021 due to health complications.
He cherished and valued so many of his friends and family along with the many memorable moments of hunting, fishing and golfing, his love for fast German-made cars, a good deck of cards or a slot machine, and the shenanigans and debauchary involving the mighty Shoreline Spartans - - including his time on varsity football, the A&W Big Boy atop the Spartan gymnasium and the swimming pool rooftop sporting an impressive “85” 😉.
From a family many might consider simple and ordinary, he grew up watching the world in a picture show of life spanning many states and in a home of immense love, constant laughter and values of humbleness and hard work.
Home is where Bob learned his art of making everyone around him feel welcome and comfortable and he could elicit the biggest of belly laughes with his consummate comedic ways.
He was a connoisseur of music - spanning the gambit from Frank Sinatra to AC/DC - a concert of the latter which he attended alone as a mere 7th grader and for which he will forever live in infamy for having attended alone (don’t ask - our parents didn’t know AC/DC from a gospel choir!).
As an avid reader, he was constantly introducing us to new works he happened upon, including author David Sedaris (a running fav!), someone we are certain he would have emulated had he authored his own works.
Bob had valor in his own right - making a pilgrimage yearly on both Memorial Day and Veterans Day to lay flowers at the the markers of those fallen serving our country, even though he never served himself - nor did he know those he honored.
His 33+ years with the Boeing Co. in the Haz-Mat group were some of his best and he made life-long friends and acquaintances. He spoke highly of so many and considered that group his home away from home.
Even as his health deteriorated he never wavered with his humor, laughter and teddy bear hugs, as well as the deep conversations surrounding memories of simpler times which he would undoubtedly weave with mastery, many with a poignant ending.
To say Bob will be greatly missed is an understatement.
He is survived by his mother and father, Robert and Rosemary Rognstad, sister Kayann Fitzgerald (with husband Paul Fitzgerald and daughters Joelle and Claire) and brother James Rognstad (with wife Mya Rognstad and daughters Kendall and Alivia) along with numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. He is preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents, Uncle Don and cousin Derek.
Due to COVID a memorial will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider donations to:
