Dorothy was born November 17, 1931 on a farm near Neepawa, Manitoba to John and Ellen Bland. She lived and worked on the farm with her family. She had fond memories of her pony, Darby, who liked to run through the fences. She enjoyed those busy harvest times with her dad delivering grain by horse and wagon to the grain pools. She moved to Kelowna in 1948 with her husband, John Carlson. In 1954, she moved with the family to Dawson Creek where she lived until 1962 and then moved to Burnaby. In 1963, she met her second husband, Kenneth Homer, where they resided in Surrey. To this marriage, she brought three daughters and Ken brought one son and together they added a daughter. Dorothy worked hard to raise five children on her own after his passing. She moved to Kelowna with her youngest daughter and worked until her retirement at age 70. She loved to cook, sew and knit. Her all-time favorite book was Call of the Wild and she was able to enjoy the movie at the theatre when it was released in early 2020. She enjoyed the outdoors, fishing and camping in the summer, snowmobiling, and ice fishing in the winter with her family. She enjoyed planting a garden each spring and caring for the rose bushes her daughters bought her.
Dorothy will be lovingly remembered by her children Gwen, Mercia, Jeff and Mya (Micah); 7 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her parents, brother Irwin and daughter Sharron. She will also be dearly missed by her friends and extended family.
