Ross Junior Vohland was born to Clarence and Blanche Vohland on July 29, 1922, in Gibbon, Nebraska. The family of ten farmed in Nebraska. He is preceded in death by his seven brothers and sisters. Ross was married to the love of his life, Maurine Dennis on October 5, 1942. In 1947, Ross and his family became lifetime Oregonians. They were married two months short of 68 years. Maurine preceded Ross in death August 15, 2010. Their three children, Kathleen Vohland of Corvallis, Wally and Janie Vohland of Salem, and Gary and Marilyn Stolz of Hermiston mourn the loss of their father. He was also a delighted grandfather of five grandchildren; Christina, Jenny, Michael, Scott and Justin, and twelve great-grandchildren; Andy, Hayley Ann, Madelyn, Sam, Caroline, Dominic, Katie, Kyle, Kaleb, Mia, Taylor, and Christian.
Ross Vohland proudly served in the United States Army in World War II. He saw active duty in the Philippines and Okinawa.
Of the many vocations he held, he was most honored in his work as lead millwright at Boise Cascade in Salem, Oregon. He retired in July, 1982, when Boise Cascade ceased making paper in Salem. His retired years were spent with making wood furniture, flying, golfing, traveling about with their travel trailer, and happily assisting others in volunteer work.
Ross has often stated that his greatest decision was to accept Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior in the early 1950’s. His children and their involvement with Child Evangelism Fellowship were instrumental in leading Ross to those who presented to him the Gospel of Jesus Christ. And for that we are most proud of as his eternal legacy.
