Benjamin M NUÑEZ, age 36, of Homestead, Florida passed away on Monday, February 1, 2021. Benjamin was born August 26, 1984 in Santa Cruz, California to Terri Edgerton and Thomas Nuñez. Benjamin grew up in Boulder Creek CA. After graduation from San Lorenzo Valley High School Benjamin joined the U.S. Navy followed by a transfer to the U. S Coast Guard.
Benjamin is survived by sons Chad Dylan Nuñez and Liam Michael Nuñez; father Thomas Nuñez and mother Terri Edgerton; brother Kris O'Brien and sister Katie Nuñez.
Health Services Technician Second Class Benjamin. M. Nuñez was serving on active duty in the U.S. Coast Guard. Upon completion of Coast Guard Boot Camp in Cape May, NJ Fireman Benjamin Nuñez began his Coast Guard service at Coast Guard Station Tybee Island located near Savannah, GA. After spending duty time protecting the coastline of Georgia, Fireman Nunez transferred to the Aids to Navigation Team also located in Savannah, Georgia to maintain the safe navigation of local waterways for all those who sail upon the seas. Following acceptance and successfully completing a very demanding and challenging Health Services A School in Petaluma CA the newly advanced Health Services Technician Third Class Benjamin. M. Nuñez transferred across the country to begin a tour of duty at the Coast Guard Academy located in New London CT. Completing his tour and advancing to Health Services Technician Second Class, Benjamin was transferred to the Maritime Safety and Security Team 91114 located at Homestead Air Reserve Base, FL. Health Service Technician Second Class Benjamin. M. Nuñez is the recipient of Numerous awards including the following; Coast Guard Achievement Medal, Coast Guard Meritorious Unit Commendation Ribbon, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, 4 Coast Guard Meritorious Team Commendation Ribbons, National Defense Service Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal, and 3 Coast Guard Good Conduct Medals.
Prior to Benjamin’s service in the U.S. Coast Guard he served 5 honorable years as a Hospital Corpsman Third Class in the U.S. Navy. Stationed in Okinawa Japan, Beaufort SC, and Kuwait. During Ben’s Navy time he received the following awards; National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Overseas Service Ribbon, Navy Good Conduct Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, and the Navy Sea Service Deployment Ribbon.
A Graveside Service with Military Honors for Benjamin will be held Thursday, March 4, 2021 from 1:30 PM to 2:00 PM at Sarasota National Cemetery, 9810 State Road 72, Sarasota, FL 34241
