John was born to Frances and Van Andrews in Wilson, North Carolina on January 1, 1954. He graduated from Ralph L. Fike High School before attending East Carolina University and Wayne Community College.
His motivational, entrepreneurial spirit led him to fall in love with outdoor billboard advertising and eventually start his own companies, Alabama Outdoor Advertising and later Outdoor Media Management.
John was a self-proclaimed free spirit, and he lived in the moment, with joy. He loved going on adventures on his motorcycle with friends and enjoying nature on the lake. A friend described him as "a man of impeccable character, morals, and a sense of fairness. Because of [these qualities], everyone who met John felt honored to be his friend.”
John invested his time and energy in many business and personal friendships everywhere he lived over the years. His email salutation stated, “Trust, Respect, Open Minded.”
John's living family includes his daughter, Brittany Grey Andrews Tricamo and her husband John Tricamo of San Luis Obispo, California; two grandchildren, Jane Grey Tricamo and Victor Grey Tricamo; two brothers, Robert Van Andrews and his wife Janet Steed Andrews, and William Cole Andrews and his wife Rebecca Altman Andrews, all of Wilson, North Carolina; and one loving nephew, Adam Carlyle Andrews of Raleigh, North Carolina. He is also survived by his beloved dog, Lucy.
Family and friends will celebrate John Andrews' life at a memorial gathering from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Wednesday, May 5, 2021 in The Barber Room at Barber Motorsports Park in Leeds, Alabama.
