Lois Jeanne Benson, 91, passed away peacefully at home in Connecticut, March 6, 2021, with family and caregivers by her side. She was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, on April 21, 1929, to William Arthur Glass and Romaine Lillian Krum Glass. Lois was a longtime resident of Hockessin, Delaware and resided in Groton, Connecticut for the past three years. She was a 1947 graduate of Penn High School. Lois graduated from IUP with a degree in Art where she met her husband, John Benson. She got a position teaching art in John’s hometown of Ridgway, PA and they were married June 5, 1954. When they moved to Delaware Lois became an educator in the art department of the Christina School District until her retirement in 1990. She was on the board of the Center of Creative Arts in Yorklyn, DE. Lois was an accomplished artist and enjoyed working in all aspects of art, especially making her own jewelry and designing her own house. She was very creative in all she did.
Lois and John shared a love of music with their children. She sang soprano in the Ridgway, Hockessin and Ebenezer Methodist Church choirs throughout the years. During her last years in Connecticut, she enjoyed Bible studies with the Greater New London Area Bible Students.
Lois is predeceased by her husband, John, of 64 years. She is survived by her children, Lynne Freeman, Jonathan Benson (Jewel Benson) and Lori Benson; four grandchildren, Courtney Powell Massey (Ken Massey), Paul Benson (Ashley Benson), John Freeman and Melanie Freeman; a great grandson, Barrett Massey. Lois was predeceased by her daughter, Jan Benson.
We are thankful to Lois’ loving and supportive caregiving company (LYLAS), members of Hospice and all those who offered support and prayers. Due to COVID-19 there will be no funeral service at this time.
