She was born August 11, 1923 in her family farm home in Mapleton. She was the daughter of John Bernard and Minnie Elizabeth (Reichel) Goetze. She married Captain Harold C. Fisher on June 17, 1944.
Jean graduated from Timber Township High School in Glasford in 1941. She traveled as a proud Air Force Captain wife with her husband to military bases all over the United States. She made several life-long friends in her travels.
After her husband passed away in 1954, Jean moved to Champaign, IL and went to the University of Illinois College to become a teacher. She furthered her education with a Master’s Degree and taught in several Champaign schools until retiring at the young age of 72.
She was of the Methodist faith, attending Glasford United Methodist Church in her younger years and was an active member of the Champaign First United Methodist Church serving on many different committees. She also volunteered at the local hospitals.
She loved traveling, both in the United States and abroad, with her family members. She was an avid bridge and scrabble player, and loved to bowl.
Jean was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sister, Dolores Laird; and brother, Bernard Goetze. Surviving are her sister, Betty Burritt of Denver, CO; and brother, Duane Goetze of Mapleton, IL; and several nieces, nephews, and many great, great-great, and great-great-great nieces and nephews.
There will be a graveside service on Saturday, March 20, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at Maple Ridge Cemetery in Mapleton. Davison-Fulton Woolsey Funeral Home in Pekin is in charge of arrangements.
