David James Simon, 79, died March 9, 2021, in the presence of his family’s love in hospice care in Greenville, Ohio.
David was born Jan. 24, 1942, and raised in Russia, Ohio, the eldest of 10 children born to James and Mary Simon.David was a son, husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather and loved his family deeply. He was a hard worker and a person of integrity. He instilled those values in his three daughters, who were raised in the family’s home on West Third Street in Greenville near St. Mary’s Catholic Church, where the family worshipped.
David retired from Clopay in Russia after many years as a purchasing manager. His work took him to Japan, Korea and other destinations. He later drove a semi, traveling the country with his beloved wife of 58 years, Becky.
David was known for his gentle smile, infectious laugh, intelligence and commonsense. He was a role model to many.
A veteran of the U.S. Army, David loved riding his Harley-Davidson and working on it in his garage. He was also curious about the world and passionate about conservative politics. He spent many hours keeping up with the news.
David is survived by his wife, Becky; daughters Kim Ricker (husband Rick), Tina Smith (husband Kurt) and Tammy Underwood (husband Scott); siblings John, William, Tom, Timothy, Edward, Jerrold, Jane, Susan and Steven; grandchildren Dustin, Chastity, Samantha, Lindsey, Alixandra and Simon; great-grandchildren Stella, Isabelle, Eli, Bliss, Judah, Magnolia and Finn; and many nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and great-great-nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
