Benoit Jean was the son of Elsie and Chenier Jean, born in Anise Rouge, Haiti on June 24, 1942. He moved to Freeport, Grand Bahamas where he met Servilie Justilien. The two married in June of 1973 and moved to Miami, Florida later that year. Benoit started working for Greyhound Lines, Inc from 1973 until 2004. During his 30 year career with Greyhound, he was well respected and loved by all of his colleagues. While still employed with Greyhound, he opened a thrift store in Little Haiti in the early 1980s, it was during this time that he developed his love for building and reupholstering furniture.
Benoit loved God and his family. He raised seven children with his wife of 48 years. Even though he faced many hardships and challenges in his youth, he endeavored to raise his family with love, his presence, and his support. He was a devote man of God and was very involved in his church. He always instilled in his family to “put God first in everything that you do”. Benoit was a very compassionate, and charitable man that devoted his spare time to seek out others that needed help. He would help his neighbors that were experiencing any hardship and provide services, such as buying groceries or providing continuous lawn care for free. Serving others was something that he always held close to his heart.
In 2004, he had a stroke that left him paralyzed on the right side of his body, which ultimately led to his early retirement. In 2007, he moved to Georgia to be closer to his family. He loved summertime and enjoyed sitting outside taking in the Georgia scenery. Next to being outdoors, he enjoyed watching TBN. Benoit loved spending time with his grandchildren and would often get them into trouble with his infectious laughter during family prayer service. This year would have been 49 years of marriage to his loving wife. He exuded love and joy in the presence of anyone that he met and received so much love from everyone that knew him. He will be greatly missed by all of us.
He was preceded in death by one child, Phito Jean; one grandchild, Markey Junior Saintil.
