LEWISTON: John V. Latuscha, 63, of Lewiston, peacefully passed away on Sunday, March 14, 2021 at his home with his loving family by his side after a long battle with cancer. He was born in Lewiston on May 5, 1957, a son of the late Alfred and Rita (Fontaine) Latuscha. He grew up in Lewiston and attended local schools. He was a graduate of Lewiston High School, class of 1976. He fondly remembered a special teacher, Rene Chicoine, for all of his mentoring.
John had a 30 year career at Bath Iron Works working as a sheet metal mechanic, taking great pride in being a part of the process of building ships for our nation’s defense. Upon retiring from BIW in 2009, John started a second career in real estate working for ERA Worden and then Berkshire Hathaway Home Services. He quickly gained the name of Realtor John and would try to sell a house to everyone he met.
He was a member of Holy Family Church in Lewiston and the Knights of Columbus.
John married the love of his life, Anne Pelletier, in March of 1992. Together, they enjoyed all the wonderful moments in raising John’s son, Craig. They truly became best friends. They filled their lives with many outdoor activities and worked side by side renovating many homes. John always stated, “family comes first.” He especially took pride in his son’s endeavors. He was known to refer to Craig as his “trophy”. To this day, he was known to speak highly of Craig to anyone he met, letting everybody know all the good Craig had accomplished. John eventually owned a camp in Readfield, Maine. Many fond memories were created at camp and fish tales were told of the many nights on the lake. John continued to claim that he held the record for the biggest catch on Torsey Pond. One of John’s favorite activities was relaxing in his hammock at the water’s edge.
John was a friend to many and stranger to none. John will always be remembered for his love of the Yankees (mostly because he loved to get everyone going!). He loved going out to breakfast along with going out for ice cream on a daily basis. He was a lover of music and had an extensive record collection. He passed this love along to his son and grandchildren by getting them started with their own record players and collection. Daily dedication videos were known to be sent back and forth. John loved garage sales, both buying and selling. He loved talking to people and he loved looking for a deal. He was incredibly imaginative and creative, making detailed matchbox cities for his grandchildren, a treehouse up to camp with wood-carved animal cut-outs in the woods, and a hockey rink in his basement for them, just to name a few. He spent much of his time over the past few years renovating his camp to be a place of enjoyment where his family could spend time together enjoying the outdoors. John was so generous and kind. He would give you anything that he had if he thought you needed it. He would spoil his family, often buying one for everyone if he saw something that he liked. He was full of ideas and would give you advice whether you wanted it or not. He will be sadly missed by many.
He is survived by his wife, Anne Latuscha of Lewiston, his son, Craig Latuscha and wife Julie of Lewiston; two grandchildren, Lincoln and McKinley Latuscha; brother, Bob Latuscha and wife Annie of Lewiston; sister, Diann Akerley and husband Scott of Lisbon; sister, and Carol Latuscha of Lewiston. He is also survived by his Uncle Bob and Aunt Joanne Baril of Lewiston and Uncle Bob Fontaine of Lewiston; step-mother Maxine Latuscha; several step siblings, many nieces and nephews; and special cat, Chicago. He was predeceased by his parents, Alfred Latuscha, Rita Beaudoin (Fontaine), and step-father, Lionel Beaudoin; and sisters, Linda Boucher and Janis Sylvester.
The family would like to thank the staff of Androscoggin Home Health and Hospice for their kindness and care.
