Mildred Celeste Hickman, age 93, passed away surrounded by loving friends and family on March 17, 2021 at her home in Murfreesboro, TN. A longtime resident of Strawberry Plains, TN, Mildred was known for her devout Christian faith, her 50 years working as a nurse, and her love of gardening and tending to her many flower gardens. Mildred graduated from Knoxville High School in the 40’s and was so very proud to be the first woman in her family to do so. She was a dedicated member and elder of Paw Paw Hollow Baptist Church in Kodak, TN, where she taught Sunday school for decades and produced the yearly Christmas programs that drew crowds from all around the area. She also served many years with the Women’s Missionary Union.
Mildred loved fiercely and her generosity knew no bounds. She lived as an example— a devout and faithful servant of God. She had a deep sense of gratitude for those who loved her, as she spent her final days telling us “you are beautiful” and “thank you.” We honor her for all her hands have done and praise her earthly works as inspiration. May her bright light continue to shine through our hearts and may her wisdom linger with us forever.
Mildred is survived by her sister, Patricia Ann Roth of Jacksonville, Florida; grandchildren, Karman Gossett of Murfreesboro, TN and Rance Gossett of Knoxville TN; great grandson, Ravin Gossett; special cousin, Becky Doyle of Knoxville, TN; her Florida family, Patrick and Deanie Daniel, Lisa Cummings, and John Tracy Daniel; and special Murfreesboro friends, Carol Davenport, The Scott Family, and The Black Family.
Mildred was preceded in death by her parents, John Lethco and Sarah Mason Lethco; husband Roy Lee Hickman; and her beloved daughter, Margo Hickman Gossett.
