Alice O. Roy age 89 passed away peacefully Sunday night March 21, 2021 in her family home, with her beloved husband of 68 years John L. Roy and family by her side. She leaves behind husband John, sister Virginia Raynor, brother Richard Omohundro who passed away in 2014, 4 children Paul Roy, Richard Roy, Marie Caroline Roy and Charlie Roy, daughter-in-law Katica Roy, 7 grandchildren Bruno, Justine, Kellie, Juliette, Erin, Henry and Annabel, and 2 great grandchildren Riley and Jackson. She passed away the same day as her husband John’s beloved sister Francoise Turgeon age 97.
Like Lou Gehrig said at Yankee Stadium on July 4, 1939, her husband John says “I consider myself the luckiest man on the face of this earth” to have spent most of his life with Alice.
Alice and John moved to Sparta in 1963. She became well known around town during her work at Midlantic Bank on Main Street and then later as a classroom assistant at the Alpine School. Alice had a beautiful smile and was always pleasant, cheerful and quick to laugh – a really hard, loud, joyous laugh. She remained pleasant and kept smiling even during the past 10 years with Alzheimer’s. She supported her children and grandchildren attending endless events including plays, birthdays, and athletic events, and there was plenty of babysitting and hosting holidays and family meals in her home. She was especially well known for her cooking skills and made the very best apple pie.
Visitation is Friday, March 26 from 4 to 6 pm at Goble Funeral Home, 22 Main Street, Sparta, NJ 07871. Funeral Mass begins Saturday March 27 at 10:30 am at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church, 294 Sparta Avenue, Sparta. Interment follows at Good Shepherd Cemetery, Airport Road at Creek Road, Green Township, NJ.
The family requests that remembrances be made in the form of contributions to the Alzheimer’s Association (www.alz.org). Other expressions of sympathy may be made however you wish.
