Judith Ann Doll, 80, a long-time resident of Chenango Forks, passed away peacefully Tuesday surrounded by her family, ending her long battle with the Alzheimer’s Disease that had stolen her away bit by bit. The mother of six, grandmother to 15 and great grandmother to 8, Judy was loved by all for her sweet nature, her energy, her kindness, and her gentle humor. She was preceded in death by her husband Dr. Charles E. Doll, her loving and committed spouse for 57 years, and her sister Mary Ellen. She is survived by her brother in-law and sister-in-law Michael and Anita Doll; her children Charles Doll (Cindy), Michael Doll (Brenda), Terry Price (Paul), Karen Chier (Mark), Christine LaBrake (Paul) and Peter Doll (Liz); her grandchildren Sashell, Chase, Bianca, Roby, Mikey, Tori, Kayla, Tyler, Jason, Carly, Paul, Brittany, Nicole, Nathan and Matthew; her 8 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She grew up in Cortland, NY and attended St. Mary’s Catholic School. Judy spent most of her summers at “the cottage” on Skaneateles Lake, which became a touchstone for her family for the rest of her life. She married Chick, the love of her life, shortly after meeting him on her senior class trip to Chenango Valley State Park where the challenge to a swim race with her lifeguard of choice was Chick. They married in 1958, and settled in the Town of Chenango where they raised their six children. She supported her husband’s dental practice, attended countless sporting and school events, cooked for hundreds of gatherings of family and friends and never forgot a family birthday or anniversary – she was a supermom, nurturing, caring, loving to everyone. Always an athlete, Judy was an excellent swimmer, loved to play tennis and kept up with Chick on their Adirondack mountain climbs and long daily walks. And she loved to dance. She was equally committed to her church and was a daily communicant for many years at St. Christopher’s, St. Rita’s and St. Francis of Assisi churches. Following Chick’s retirement, the couple moved to Saranac Lake, where they ran the Adirondack Motel for many years. Judy was a generous hostess making lifelong friends of many of their guests, baking muffins daily and pies for special occasions. The annual gatherings at the motel over Thanksgiving brought together her entire family, creating wonderful memories for all. She and Chick enjoyed traveling visiting the Caribbean, Central America, regularly to Florida and South Carolina and a very special year-long cross-country camping trip ending in Alaska. They settled once again in their cottage on Skaneateles and later in Chenango Bridge. She was known as Grandma Judy to her many grandchildren and Aunt Judy to her nieces and nephews, she was always a welcoming and supportive presence, encouraging them to pursue their dreams. Even as Alzheimer’s took its toll, Judy had a smile on her face and was ready to help anyone who needed it. A Funeral Mass will be offered on Saturday, March 27, 2021 at 8:30 am at St. Francis of Assisi Church in Hillcrest. Burial will take place at Calvary Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Alzheimer Association or a charity of your choice. Special thanks to Brookdale West and Willow Point Nursing Home for their compassion during her stay.
