John Vincent LaCorte, Sr. died of natural causes in the early morning of Wednesday, March 24, 2021, in Gainesville, Florida. He was 86 years old. In the days and weeks before his death, he rested comfortably with home care surrounded by his loving family.
He was born on November 14, 1934 in Jersey City, NJ. At about age 7 his family moved from Jersey City to Lyndhurst, NJ where he spent the rest of his childhood and most of his adult life. That is where he met his wife of 62 years, Patricia LaCorte (Melillo). They married and had three children, John Jr., Patrick and Lisa.
John, Sr. was a successful, self-employed general contractor until his retirement at about age 60. Soon thereafter he and Patricia moved from Lyndhurst to Palm Coast Florida, where they lived until moving to Gainesville in 2017.
When not devoting time to his business and family, John volunteered extensively at the Lyndhurst Elks Club and the Palm Coast Italian American Club where he rose to the ranks of Exalted Ruler and President, respectively. He enjoyed weekends on the beach and boardwalk of Seaside Park, NJ, tailgate parties at Giants games, entertaining family and friends at backyard pool parties and Christmas Day celebrations, landscaping projects on his well-manicured properties, and his true passions, golfing and singing karaoke.
He is pre-deceased by his 6 siblings, brothers Vincent, Joseph, Frank and Louis LaCorte, sisters Sister Leonilda and Millie Rove and his grandson Nicholas LaCorte.
He is survived by his wife, three children, 14 grandchildren – John, Bradley, Charles, Peter, Patricia, Patrick, Andrea, Ryan, Giovanna, Joseph, Vinnie, Antonia, Kaley, and Hunter, and 7 great grandchildren, Brycen, Lucas, Gabriella, Lisa, Patrick, John, and William.
