Irene was born October 14, 1935, in Norwich CT, to Joseph and Rose Buechse. She resided in Norwich her entire life. She was the youngest of 3 children predeceased by her brother Maximilian Buechse and sister Theresa VanNorman of Shortsville, New York.
Irene attended Norwich Free Academy and was a member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church of Norwich for many years. She met the love of her life and husband of 59 and half years at a dance hall in Westerly, RI. They were married on October 14, 1961 in Norwich. They had 3 children Sandra, Wayne and Cheryl. Early on she was a stay at home mom and took care of her elderly mother until she passed.
Irene loved flowers, baking pies, reading romance novels and traveling with her family on yearly camping trips. She traveled to her ancestral countries of Germany and Austria in later years. She also traveled with her husband to various places and her last adventure to Hawaii with her daughter and granddaughters. She loved picnic’s and gatherings with family and friends.
Irene started at Strick’s Bakery at the Norwich Town Mall in the 1980’s. Irene then went to Delia’s Grinder and Bakery Shop where she worked for many years until her retirement. She made many lifelong friends and acquaintances along the way. She will be greatly missed by all.
Irene is survived by her husband, Donald Cosentino; children, Sandra Carpenter, Wayne Cosentino (Penelope), and Cheryl Jones (Noel); grandchildren, Rebecca Cosentino, Nina Morrone, Nicole Zaneski, Conor and Madeleine Jones, Nico and Selena Cosentino, and her great granddaughter Sophie Morrone. She leaves behind sister-in-laws many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. Her memory will be cherished by all who knew her.
There will be a memorial service held at St. Marks Lutheran Church in Norwich on Monday, April 5, from 10am to 12pm, followed by a burial service at Maplewood Cemetery in Norwich.
