Steven James Vasko, age 65, of Allendale, Michigan passed away on Wednesday, March 24, 2021 at Metro Hospital in Wyoming, MI after a brief illness. Steven was born November 29, 1955 in Dearborn, Michigan.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Wanda (Fry) Vasko, and brother-in-law, Milt Green.
Steven is survived by his loving wife, Shirley Vasko, their children, Danielle (Gavin) Page, Scott (Jamie) Vasko, Dale (Erin) Rykse, Dayna Rykse, his siblings, Winonda Green, Robert (Susan) Vasko, Suzanne (Matt Brown) Vasko and his grandchildren, Lincoln, Lawson, Ella, Wesley, and Brooklyn as well as many aunt, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and dear friends.
A lifelong Michigander, Steve was raised in Dearborn and attended Edsel Ford High School and then graduated from Michigan State University class of '78 with a BA in Financial Administration. He worked many years at Prestolite Wire and raised his family in Livonia. He then moved to Western Michigan where he was working at Medallion Instrumentation Systems the last 9 years. An avid sports enthusiast, Steve was a loyal Detroit Tiger and Michigan State Spartan fan. Steve loved MSU football and was a season ticket holder for decades. He enjoyed the outdoors and fishing, especially during his annual trip to his brother's Lake Erie cottage in Western New York. Steven was always great with animals, and he loved his dogs, especially his buddy, Dakota. He enjoyed being a soccer coach for many years and had the opportunity to coach his son's basketball & baseball teams as well. Above all, Steven adored his family. He was a devoted husband, proud father and relished being a grandfather. He was looking forward to retirement and moving closer to family so he could spend more time with his kids and grandkids and attend more of his grandkids' sporting events. He valued his time with family and tried to be there for the many moments he cherished: a tennis game, a soccer game, a wedding, a tailgate party, a graduation party, and all holiday gatherings. He had a way with kids that was surely admired; he was a hard working and kind man who dearly loved and his family. Steven was a strong man of God and was anchored in his faith. He will be missed by many.
